Data quality

Identity and freshness semantics under evaluation.

Match the sellable unit first

The scope under evaluation includes Pokémon raw cards, One Piece raw cards, and factory-sealed products for both games, in English and the US market. It is a curated scope proposal, not a complete catalog claim.

For cards, match game, set, collector number, printing, language, and market, then select the exact variant/condition pair. An alternate-art printing is not the base printing. Holofoil and reverse holofoil finishes are not interchangeable. Neither a Near Mint observation nor an unspecified ungraded reference establishes a price for a Lightly Played card.

For sealed products, match package type, unit kind, units per package, edition, language, and market. A booster bundle, elite trainer box, booster box, and case are not interchangeable. Pokémon Center and standard editions also require distinct identity.

The proposed price_options lists the card’s eligible observed variant/condition combinations. That list does not guarantee a fresh quote at request time. Uncertain identity is excluded from the eligible catalog until reviewed; incomplete source metadata must not be filled with guessed defaults.

Four explicit states

  • Fresh: the proposed source observation age is no more than 36 hours at the response snapshot.
  • Stale: a price exists, but its source observation is older than 36 hours.
  • Unknown: a price exists, but a trustworthy source observation time is unavailable.
  • Missing: there is no distributable price for this item in the response.

The 36-hour boundary is a draft convention. It is not a measured refresh guarantee or a service-level commitment. A nightly import alone would not establish that a source updated its price that night.

Fresh and stale observations include a known source_as_of. Unknown observations have source_as_of: null. A priced observation includes collected_at; a missing result has no price or observation.

Why a price can be missing

  • not_found: the requested product is not in the eligible catalog.
  • no_observation: the product exists but has no usable observation.
  • not_licensed: the observation is not eligible for distribution.
  • unsupported_selection: the requested kind or card variant/condition does not match an eligible price option.

Keep these outcomes separate in your application. Do not silently substitute a different source, market, edition, condition, or product. Do not carry an old quote forward without labeling its age.

Reference prices have limits

A market reference is not a verified completed sale or a guaranteed purchase offer. A quote applies only to its selected product and condition; do not estimate another condition using a multiplier. An ungraded reference describes a raw card with unspecified condition, not a graded slab. This preview provides no grading, investment-return, or sell-through guarantee.

Example values and external mappings are synthetic. The example source label licensed_reference describes the intended observation shape; it does not identify a contracted source or establish permission to redistribute an existing feed.
